It’s summer! Time to enjoy the sun and relax on the beach. His whole life Maurits Cornelis Escher enjoyed the seaside.
During the thirties Escher could afford to holiday at the Sea. He made beautiful photographs of his new fiancee Jetta. In the early 20th century photography as a hobby was up and coming. The rise of the affordable, manageable camera made for a whole new type of Photo: the snapshot. And what did one capture? Those happy moments at the beach.
During the summer of 2016 we showed a selection of Eschers own photo’s in the Ballroom. With bathing costumes from the 20’s/30’s and visitors could make their own 30’s snapshot at the seaside.
