It’s summer! Time to enjoy the sun and relax on the beach. His whole life Maurits Cornelis Escher enjoyed the seaside.
During the thirties Escher was able to afford a holiday at the Sea. He made beautiful photographs of his new fiancee Jetta. In the early 20th century photography as a hobby was up and coming. The rise of the affordable, manageable camera made for a whole new type of photo: the snapshot. And what did one capture? Those happy moments at the beach.
During the summer of 2016 we showed a selection of Eschers own photos in the Ballroom. With bathing costumes from the 20’s/30’s and visitors could make their own 30’s snapshot at the seaside.
